In hardship the human soul looks for help and salvation in unknown source. It can be a super power, majestic force in the universe , in omnipotent God or something there.
This is an exclusive human trait , however if it ever existed in higher primate it will be in very week sense if we ever can know. These high primates don't communicate their higher thoughts and we don't their power of  abstraction thoughts.

Love and hatred are exibited in other species and is not a monopoly of the human race or specie. Love can be manifested in different forms that is peculiar only in the human race. Hatred on the other hand is easier than love because it involves elements of survival which is more dominant and a necessity. Love on the other hand is perfection. Animals can exhibit the "like" trait which can loosely be called love. Love can be intense feeling to love somebody and occupies your mind on the other hand such mind occupation is doubtlessly ever exists with animals.
Love or hatred can be manifestation of mind abstraction of right or wrong or appreciation. Hatred on the other hand can be form of being mean and drive to hurt.
